Join us this fall for ...
Our 2008 conference will focus on the craft of writing...how to get your novel started, methods to breathe life into your narrative non-fiction, ways to keep the reader turning the pages and looking forward to your next title. And here is an exciting PLUS! We are going to include POETRY! Saturday's session will include at least two breakout groups dedicated to poetry, poets and spoken word. We are currently working with Deb Collett, head conductor of the Aesthetic Underground in Peoria, IL, to create workshops designed to be enlightening, stimulating and FUN for poets. Marilyn Meredith, author of dozens of spine-tingling mystery/thriller novels and more, headlines our list of presenters. Marilyn gives one of the best presentations on CHARACTER development that we've ever heard. In addition, she is a cracker-jack marketer. Back by popular demand, our own Mary Montague Sikes! Monti will shares her techniques on blending paranormal elements into her HOT romances...which are ALWAYS set in an exotic location. Monti will also present her from-the-trenches talk on promoting your book, based on her title, "Published! Now Sell It" Plans and arrangements are still being finalized, but we know a few things for sure... We will kick off the weekend with a cocktail hour reception on Friday evening to get acquainted and relax. On Saturday, we will focus on craft of writing topics ranging from newbie through pro. Our on-site luncheon will feature a keynote speaker. Sunday's sessions will turn to the art and techniques of book promotion. A Farewell Brunch brunch will be served and the Keynote Address by Publisher Billie Johnson will include the announcement of the winners of the Dark Oak, CopTales and Timeless Love Writing Contests! The Conference Fee will include the Friday Reception, Saturday Breakfast and Lunch Buffet and the Farewell Brunch on Sunday, plus extras including an on-site bookshop! Our friends at the Tourism Council will host a walking tour of our historic downtown square after workshops finish on Saturday. Taylorville's entire downtown is on the National Registry of Historic Places, so this will be a fascinating way to stretch our legs.
