This girl in the hat is my fav (although the designer would have to get rid of that black dot on her cheek, IMO). She really seems to have China's sass while still being ladylike.

The girl in the while frilly outfit could work too, although it doesn't strike me as vintage as the story.

The sitting girl below is close, but IMO the pic is not as commanding as the hat one.

The two ladies on the bottom don't really say China to me, although they would be commanding on the cover. The one in color is good for ....er. ..color. The other one seems to have some spunk, but I found it hard to see China showing so much skin.

 

If any of these boats are close to the era, we could put on on the back, near the description blurb.
